Choose the Galaxy Z Flip8 if update length matters to you: Samsung promises seven years, while Motorola promises four years of security updates on the razr+. Choose the razr+ if you want $100 off, a bigger battery and faster charging on paper. Everything below comes from the makers' published specs.

Price

The Z Flip8 launched at $1,199.99 in August 2026, and Samsung listed it at the same price on October 15, 2026. Samsung's site also showed it from $1,049.99 that day, which is $150 off without a trade-in.

The razr+ launched at $1,099.99 in May 2026, and Motorola listed it at the same price on October 15. That makes it $100 cheaper than the Flip8 at regular prices and $50 more than Samsung's sale price. Both start at 256GB.

Update promises

This is the largest gap between them. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the Flip8, which runs to July 2033.

Motorola promises four years of security updates for the razr+, ending May 2030, at least every other month. Motorola lists Android 17 as the next OS version but publishes no count of Android upgrades, so we cannot say how many it will get. Per year of promised support, the Flip8 works out to about $171 and the razr+ to about $275. Our price per year of updates page does the same math for other phones, and how long phones get updates covers each brand.

Screens

Both have a 6.9-inch folding main display. The Flip8 uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 120Hz. The razr+ uses an LTPO Extreme AMOLED panel at up to 165Hz.

The cover screens differ too. The Flip8 has a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover screen that runs at 60 or 120Hz. The razr+ has a 4.0-inch cover display at 165Hz. On paper the razr+ has the higher refresh rates on both screens, and the Flip8 has a slightly larger cover.

Weight, battery and charging

The Flip8 weighs 180g and the razr+ weighs 189g. That makes the Flip8 9g lighter.

Battery capacity favors Motorola, at 4,500 mAh typical against 4,300 mAh for the Flip8. Motorola also lists faster wired charging: 45W against 25W. The razr+ lists 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse charging. Samsung lists the Flip8 as a dual-battery design, and Motorola lists a silicon-carbon anode for the razr+. All of these are maker figures.

Chips and memory

The Flip8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM. The razr+ uses the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, also with 12GB. The Flip8 has the newer and higher-tier Qualcomm chip on paper.

Cameras and durability

Both phones have two rear cameras. The Flip8 lists a 50MP main and a 12MP ultra wide. The razr+ lists a 50MP main with optical stabilization and a 50MP ultra wide. The razr+ therefore has the higher-resolution second lens, though megapixels alone do not decide photo quality.

Both carry an IP48 rating. The ratings match, so durability on paper does not separate them.

Carriers and SIMs

Both are listed for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. The Flip8 takes a nano-SIM plus eSIM, and the razr+ takes an eSIM plus one nano-SIM. Verizon's Samsung page said on October 15 that the Flip8 is available only at Verizon Authorized Retail stores, with no online product page. Which to buy

Pick the Flip8 if you keep phones for many years, or if you want a seven-year promise at a lower cost per year. Pick the razr+ if the upfront price, a larger battery and 45W charging matter more than the length of support.
