Pick the iPhone Duo if you use an iPhone and want a foldable that fits your Apple setup; pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you want a written seven-year update promise, a physical SIM option and a 201-gram body. The Duo costs $1,999 for 256GB and the Fold8 costs $1,899.99 for the same storage. This is a spec comparison from each maker's published numbers. We have not held either phone.

Price and storage

Apple's iPhone Duo launched at $1,999 in October 2026 for 256GB. The Galaxy Z Fold8 launched at $1,899.99 in August 2026 for 256GB. Both makers listed those prices on October 15, 2026, so the gap is $99.01 at the base tier.

The Duo comes in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions. The Fold8 comes in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

Screens

Both phones list a 7.6-inch inner screen at up to 120Hz. Apple uses OLED and Samsung uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X. The Duo lists a 5.4-inch outer screen. Samsung's own pages give the Fold8 cover screen as 5.4 or 5.5 inches, depending on the page, at 120Hz.

On paper, the screens are close. The Fold8 has a wider unfolded shape, listed at 123.9 x 161.4 mm. Apple does not give the inner screen dimensions in the data we have.

Weight

The Duo is 254 grams, and Apple says that holds open or closed. The Fold8 is 201 grams. That is 53 grams more in the Duo, about a quarter more than the Samsung. If weight in a pocket matters, the numbers favor the Fold8.

Cameras

Both list two rear cameras. The Duo has a 48MP Fusion Main and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. The Fold8 has a 50MP main and a 50MP ultra wide. Neither has a telephoto camera on its list. Samsung's Z Fold8 Ultra and Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold do, if zoom matters.

Megapixel counts do not tell you how photos look, so we leave that comparison out.

Battery and charging

The two makers state battery life differently. Apple gives hours: up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer one, and up to 24 hours of typical use. Samsung gives capacity: a typical 4,800 mAh. Both phones use dual batteries.

Charging is stated differently too. Samsung lists 45W wired charging. Apple gives no wattage and says the Duo reaches up to 50% in about 20 minutes with a 60W or stronger adapter. Without a capacity for the Duo, there is no fair way to rank the two on battery from the spec sheets.

Durability

The Duo is rated IP68. The Fold8 is rated IP48. Both digits are lower on the Fold8, so on paper the Duo has the stronger rating for dust and for water.

SIM and carriers

The Duo is eSIM only, with dual eSIM and no physical SIM. The Fold8 takes a nano-SIM plus an eSIM, and also supports dual eSIM. If you want to move a physical SIM between phones, only the Fold8 does that. Our eSIM guide explains the setup.

The data lists both phones as supported on AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.

Updates

This is the clearest difference. Samsung promises seven years of OS upgrades and security updates for the Fold8, through July 31, 2033. Apple publishes no fixed update period for the Duo. It ships with iOS 27, and Apple's iOS 27 compatibility list still includes the iPhone 11 from 2019. That is history, not a promise.

Chips and memory

The Duo uses the A20 Pro. The Fold8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM. Apple does not list RAM for the Duo, so there is no memory comparison.

What the extra $99.01 buys

For the extra $99.01 you get a higher IP rating, a 2TB storage option, an Apple chip and iOS. You do not get a lighter phone (the Fold8 is 53 grams less), a physical SIM, a written update period or a listed battery capacity.

If neither fits, the best foldable phones list has the other options, including the Pixel 11 Pro Fold and the Fold8 Ultra.
