The Galaxy Z Fold8 is a book-style foldable with a 7.6-inch inner screen, listed at $1,899.99 for 256GB. It is the cheaper and lighter of Samsung's two Fold8 models, and it matches Google's Pixel 11 Pro Fold on price while weighing 38 grams less. It also has the shortest camera list of the three.

Samsung launched it on August 7, 2026 at $1,899.99, and the maker's regular price was unchanged on October 15, 2026. Larger tiers are $2,099.99 for 512GB and $2,499.99 for 1TB.

The shape and the screens

The Fold8 uses a wider "passport" shape than earlier Folds. Unfolded, it measures 123.9 by 161.4 mm, and the main screen is 7.6 inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 120Hz. The cover screen is 1972 by 1248 pixels at 120Hz. Samsung's own pages disagree on its diagonal, giving 5.4 inches in one place and 5.5 in another, so treat it as roughly 5.5.

The Fold8 Ultra has an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch cover screen, both Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 120Hz. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold also has an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch outer screen, at 1 to 120Hz.

Price. The Fold8 is $1,899.99, the Fold8 Ultra $2,099.99 and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold $1,899. On October 15 Samsung showed the Ultra at $1,899.99, $200 off through November 2, which matches the price of the standard Fold8. That sale is temporary.

Weight. The Fold8 weighs 201 grams, the Ultra 215 grams and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold 239 grams. The Fold8 is 14 grams lighter than the Ultra and 38 lighter than the Pixel. Weight matters more on a foldable than on a slab phone, because you carry a thick device in a pocket all day.

Battery. The Fold8 has a 4,800 mAh typical battery in a dual-cell design. The Ultra is 5,000 mAh typical. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is 4,806 mAh typical, and Google quotes 24+ hours. Samsung charges at 45W on both of its models. Google gives no maximum wattage, only up to 50% in about 30 minutes with a 30W or faster charger.

Cameras. The Fold8 lists a 50MP main and a 50MP ultra wide, with no telephoto. The Ultra has a 200MP main, a 50MP ultra wide and a 10MP 3x telephoto. The Pixel lists a 48MP wide, a 10.5MP ultrawide and a 10.8MP 5x telephoto. If zoom matters, the standard Fold8 is the one to rule out. We have not used any of them, so this is specs only.

Chip and RAM. Both Samsung models use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM (16GB on the 1TB models). The Pixel uses the Tensor G6 with 16GB.

Water and dust. Samsung lists IP48 for both Folds. The Pixel lists IP68. The first digit covers solid particles, where 6 is dust-tight and 4 is not, so the Pixel has the higher rating on paper.

Updates and carriers

Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from the global launch date. Samsung.com/us puts the end at July 31, 2033 for both Folds. Google also promises seven years, counted from August 2026, so through about August 2033, with no exact end date. See how long phones get updates for the other brands.

AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile are marked as supported on all three. The Fold8 takes a nano-SIM plus an eSIM and supports dual eSIM. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold also takes a nano-SIM plus an eSIM. Samsung sells the Fold8 in several carrier versions, and unlocked vs carrier phones explains the trade-off.

Who should buy a book-style foldable at all

A book-style foldable makes sense if you read, work in documents or watch video on your phone and want a tablet-sized screen without carrying a second device. It costs roughly twice what a standard flagship does, adds weight and, on the Samsung models, gives up the dust rating of a regular phone. For comparison, the Galaxy S26 Ultra lists at $1,399.99 with IP68.

If you do not do those things, a standard slab phone is better value. If you want the folding form factor, the best foldable phones page puts the whole category in one place.

Choose the Fold8 for the lightest weight and the lowest Samsung price. Choose the Ultra for the telephoto and the larger screens. Choose the Pixel for the dust rating, 16GB of RAM and the physical SIM option, accepting that it is the heaviest of the three at 239 grams.
