The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable, and it is on sale in the US from October 23, 2026, starting at $1,999 for 256GB. Apple announced it on September 9, 2026. It opens like a book into a 7.6-inch screen, runs the A20 Pro chip and ships with iOS 27. Everything below comes from Apple's published specs; we have not held one.

Price and storage

Apple lists the iPhone Duo at $1,999 for the base 256GB model. It also comes in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions. The maker listed it at $1,999 on October 15, 2026, and that is the launch price.

That puts it $99.01 above the Galaxy Z Fold8, which launched at $1,899.99 in August 2026 for 256GB. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold launched at $1,899 for 256GB the same month. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra launched at $2,099.99, the highest of the four.

Screens

The inner screen is a 7.6-inch folding OLED. The outer screen is a 5.4-inch OLED. Apple lists both at up to 120Hz with ProMotion.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 also has a 7.6-inch inner screen at 120Hz. The Fold8 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro Fold both list 8-inch inner screens, with 6.5-inch outer screens. On paper, the Duo has the smallest inner screen of the four, tied with the Fold8, and a smaller outer screen than the Ultra or the Pixel.

Weight

Apple lists 254 grams, and says the figure is the same open and closed. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is 201 grams, the Fold8 Ultra is 215 grams and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold is 239 grams. The Duo is 53 grams heavier than the Fold8 and 15 grams heavier than the Pixel.

Cameras

Apple lists two rear cameras: a 48MP Fusion Main and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. The list has no telephoto camera.

Samsung's Fold8 also lists two rear cameras, a 50MP main and a 50MP ultra wide. The Fold8 Ultra lists a 200MP main, a 50MP ultra wide and a 10MP 3x telephoto. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold lists a 48MP wide, a 10.5MP ultrawide and a 10.8MP 5x telephoto. If zoom matters to you, the Ultra and the Pixel are the two with a telephoto on the spec sheet.

Battery and charging

Apple does not state a capacity in mAh. It gives hours instead: up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display, and up to 24 hours of typical use. The phone uses dual batteries.

Apple also gives no maximum charging wattage. It says the phone reaches up to 50% in about 20 minutes with a 60W or stronger adapter. The Galaxy Z Fold8 lists 4,800 mAh (a typical value) and 45W wired charging. Google lists a typical 4,806 mAh for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold and says up to 50% in about 30 minutes with a 30W or stronger charger. Because the Duo's capacity is not published, there is no way to line it up against those numbers on paper.

Durability, security and SIM

The Duo is rated IP68, the same rating as the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Both Samsung folds are rated IP48, a lower rating than the Duo's IP68 on both the dust and the water digit.

Security is Touch ID in the side button. Apple lists no Face ID.

The SIM setup is eSIM only: dual eSIM, with no physical SIM. The Galaxy Z Fold8 takes a nano-SIM plus an eSIM, and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold takes a single nano-SIM plus an eSIM. If you switch carriers by swapping a card, the Duo will not do that.

Updates

Apple publishes no fixed update period for the iPhone Duo, and we will not guess one. The phone ships with iOS 27. For context, Apple's iOS 27 compatibility list still includes the iPhone 11 from 2019. Samsung promises seven years of OS and security updates for the Fold8, through July 31, 2033. Google promises seven years for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, counted from August 2026. The Android foldables have a written promise; the Duo has a track record.

Carriers

AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile are all listed as supported for the iPhone Duo. The same is true of the Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Because the Duo has no physical SIM, you set up service through an eSIM. Our eSIM guide covers how that works.

Who should consider a $1,999 foldable

A phone at this price makes sense if you already live in Apple's ecosystem, want a tablet-size screen that folds into a pocket, and will use that screen every day. The Duo is the foldable for iPhone owners who would rather not switch platforms.

It is a harder sell if you want a telephoto camera, a written update promise or a lighter phone. Those are on the Android side of the spec sheets above.
