Samsung Galaxy S26: the $999 small Galaxy

Galaxy S26 on paper: 6.3-inch screen, 167 g, a 3x telephoto and updates to February 2033, now $999.99 at Samsung. Compared with the S26+, S26 FE and Pixel 11.

The Galaxy S26 suits someone who wants Samsung's top chip in the smallest and lightest phone of the S26 series, and who plans to keep it for years: Samsung's security updates run to February 2033. It suits you less if battery capacity is your priority, because it has the smallest battery of the phones on this page, or if you balk at paying $999.99 at Samsung's list price when the Galaxy S26 FE and Pixel 11 cost less.

We haven't held a Galaxy S26; this page compares Samsung's published specifications and update policy with the phones you are likely to weigh it against.

Price: launched at $899.99, now $999.99

Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 in the US in March 2026 at $899.99 for 256GB, after pre-orders opened on February 25. It has raised the price since. On October 15, 2026, samsung.com listed the 256GB model at $999.99 and the 512GB model at $1,199.99.

The whole series moved the same way. The S26+ went from $1,099.99 to $1,199.99, and the S26 Ultra from $1,299.99 to $1,399.99. Samsung's own store often runs promotions on top of its list price, so check the current offer before you pay full price, but the list price is the one we hold Samsung to.

How it differs from the S26+ and S26 Ultra

The clearest comparison is with the two bigger S26 models, which share its chip and its update promise.

All three use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM in the 256GB versions. After that, they split:

  • Screen: 6.3 inches on the S26, 6.7 on the S26+, 6.9 on the Ultra. All three are Dynamic AMOLED 2X at 120 Hz.
  • Battery: 4,300 mAh, 4,900 mAh and 5,000 mAh.
  • Wired charging: 25W, 45W and 60W.
  • Weight: 167 g, 190 g and 214 g.
  • Cameras: the S26 and S26+ share a 50MP main, 12MP ultra wide and 10MP 3x telephoto. The Ultra has a 200MP main, a 50MP ultra wide and two telephotos (10MP at 3x and 50MP at 5x).

So the S26 trades battery and charging speed for size and weight. The S26+ keeps the same cameras and adds a bigger screen, a bigger battery and faster charging for $1,199.99 at list. If you don't need the smallest phone, that is the obvious step up.

Screen and battery on paper

The S26 has a 6.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen at 120 Hz. That is the same size as the Pixel 11 and the iPhone 17, so it is "small" only within Samsung's lineup. How bright or color-accurate it is can't be read from a spec sheet, so we leave screen quality out.

The battery is 4,300 mAh typical, and Samsung's US newsroom lists a slightly lower minimum rated capacity. That is the smallest battery among the phones compared here: the Pixel 11 lists 4,985 mAh and the S26 FE 4,900 mAh. Capacity isn't the same as runtime, since the chip and screen matter too, but it is the most comparable battery figure the makers publish.

Charging is listed at 25W wired, the slowest in the S26 series and well behind the 45W of the cheaper S26 FE.

Cameras by specification

The rear cameras are a 50MP main, a 12MP ultra wide and a 10MP telephoto at 3x. The S26 FE has the same main and ultra wide resolutions with an 8MP telephoto at 3x. The Pixel 11 pairs a 48MP wide and 13MP ultrawide with a 10.8MP telephoto at 5x, so it reaches further on paper.

Resolution and zoom factor describe the hardware. They don't tell you which phone takes the better photo, and we won't rank cameras on specs alone.

Updates: seven years, through February 2033

Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the S26, counted from the global launch date. Samsung's US spec page gives February 2033 as the end of security support. If you buy one in October 2026, that leaves a little over six years. The promise is in footnote 21 of Samsung's S26 launch release.

Because the clock starts at launch, a newer model gets a later end date. The S26 FE launched in September 2026 and runs to September 2033. The Pixel 11 runs to about August 2033. Our guide to how long phones get updates puts every brand's terms side by side.

Carriers and eSIM

AT&T and Verizon sell the Galaxy S26 on their own sites, and T-Mobile announced it in its newsroom, so it is available from all three national carriers. It takes a nano-SIM card and an eSIM, and it supports two eSIMs at once. That makes it easier than the eSIM-only Pixel 11 if you move a physical SIM card between phones.

The US model number is SM-S942U/U1. If you are deciding between a carrier version and an unlocked one, our explainer on unlocked vs carrier phones covers what changes.

  • Galaxy S26 FE: $699.99 at its September 2026 launch and still $699.99 list. A bigger 6.7-inch screen, a 4,900 mAh battery and 45W charging, with an Exynos 2500 chip, 8GB of RAM and an 8MP 3x telephoto. It weighs 193 g and gets updates to September 2033. The pick if you want a bigger battery and don't need the top chip or the small size.
  • Galaxy S26+: $1,099.99 at launch, $1,199.99 list now. The same chip and cameras as the S26 with a bigger screen, battery and charger.
  • Pixel 11: $899 at its August 2026 launch and still $899. It has a 5x telephoto, a 4,985 mAh battery and updates to about August 2033, but no physical SIM slot. Our Pixel 11 overview goes through it in detail.

For a small Android phone with long support, the S26 is the lightest option here at 167 g. Whether that is worth $999.99 over the Pixel 11 comes down to how much you value the lighter body and the SIM tray against the Pixel's longer zoom and larger battery.
